Area Chapters

display the area panorama on the left (here Zion Natl. Park from Angel’s Landing.) When using CD-ROM, drag the mouse toward edges (R or L) to spin the panorama. Use buttons to select from available subjects:

area intro with video

Area Introduction
with short video

Each area has a brief multimedia introduction of its highlights, accesible via the top right button above.

Video is included where a suitable subject exists. Bodysurfing the famous Wedge in Newport Beach was one of them (left.)

Subject Chapters

display a map of the selected area showing locations of hotels, attractions and entertainment areas. Buttons on right select a category: Hotels and restaurants have 4 categories each. FACTS and DO subjects have 6, some fixed and some dependent on destination. The picture shows DO categories for Southern California: Arts & Culture, Sports & Recreation, Nightlife, Day Trips, Amusement Parks (like Disneyland and Seaworld,) and Shopping. Hiking replaces Amusement Parks in our Southwest guide.

You can either select a category, or ask for all categories for a particular area and subject.

Index screen

displays a list of items matching your selection, with address, phone number, brief review and buttons leading to more info either from the CD-ROM, from a related web site or often both (see items 1 through 4 with both buttons.)

The Southwest guide, and any new editions, add a 'Print this one' button to select index entries with contact info to be printed at the end of user session (item 4 is ON.)

Detail screens

Hotels and restaurants have typically one page of information with 2 photos each. HOTEL page describes its facilities, with a photo of a typical room, plus an exterior one. RESTAURANT page shows a menu selection with prices and photos of exterior, interior or food.
FACTS and DO pages have various designs depending on subject matter, from 1 page with 1 photo, to multipage narratives with 1-2 photos per page - see below.
Most photos can zoom to full screen resolution of 640*480 by clicking and holding mouse over them.

Example of a 4-page entry
for Day trip: Malibu

FACTS and DO pages have various designs depending on subject matter, from 1 page with 1 photo, to several linked pages of narrative with 2 photos per page. This example shows a day trip to Malibu, describing the beaches, mountains, places related to movie making, and suggested rest stops.

Gaia Guides are CD-ROM based, web-linked visual travel guides like no other. Designed for active travelers. Reorganized in a split of a second the way you want to 'read' them. Quick and very visual. We review and recommend hotels, wide range of restaurants and activities typical to the destination - and popular with travelers. Full screen photos, huge panoramas and videos show you what to expect, better than a book or a web site could. You don't have to spend days surfing the web, trying to find anything unbiased and meaningful, but you can use the links to go to the right web site for current events or to make reservation.
